Maccy is built to be used entirely from the keyboard. Here's every shortcut it offers, what it does, and how to change any of them if they clash with something you already use.
Default shortcuts
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Cmd+Shift+V | Open the clipboard history popup |
| Esc | Close the popup without pasting |
| Type any text | Live-filters the history list (fuzzy search) |
Shortcuts inside the history popup
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| ↑ / ↓ | Move between items in the list |
| Return | Paste the selected item |
| Cmd+Delete | Delete the selected item from history |
| Cmd+1–Cmd+9 | Jump straight to and paste the Nth item in the list |
Customizing a shortcut
- Click the Maccy icon in the menu bar and open Preferences.
- Find the shortcut field for opening the history popup.
- Click into the field and press your preferred key combination — it's recorded automatically.
- Close preferences; the new shortcut takes effect immediately.
Common shortcut conflicts
The default Cmd+Shift+V is also used by some apps for "paste without formatting." If you regularly use that feature in word processors or browsers, consider remapping Maccy to something else entirely, such as Cmd+Shift+M or a function key combination, to avoid the two competing for the same input.
A fully keyboard-driven workflow
With the shortcuts above, a typical retrieval looks like: press Cmd+Shift+V, type two or three letters of what you remember copying, press Return. No mouse required at any point. For the rest of what Maccy can do beyond shortcuts, see our full Maccy guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is the default Maccy shortcut?
Cmd+Shift+V opens Maccy's clipboard history popup by default. It can be changed from Maccy's preferences if it conflicts with another app's shortcut.
Can I paste a specific item without scrolling in Maccy?
Yes. Inside the history popup, Cmd+1 through Cmd+9 paste the corresponding item directly by its position in the list.
